Why is being fit important to you?
It takes too much energy to be down on yourself all the time, to feel ashamed or not your best. I'd rather spend that energy elsewhere.

Lookie what I can do!

Upper-body strength has never been my forte, and that has hurt me a little in one of my main hobbies: yoga. But now that my arms have been firmed and toned with medicine balls and fitness bands, I totally surprised myself when I was able to perform a once difficult pose with some ease. I was able to hold it for more than a minute several times and my heart glowed with pride when the teacher complimented my form.

Brown rice crispy bars from Alton Brown

I shared some of these around a boot camp and they seemed to be a hit. Tasty and filling, but only about 60 calories per 2-inch square. Enjoy!

3 ounces puffed brown rice, approximately 6 cups
3 tablespoons flax seed oil, plus extra for the pan
1 tablespoon orange blossom honey
7 ounces mini marshmallows, approximately 4 cups
3 ounces toasted slivered almonds, approximately 3/4 cup
1 1/2 ounces coarsely chopped dried cranberries, approximately 1/3 cup

Great snack option

After reading my post from the other day, Joe let me try a great protein snack bar from a company he really recommends: the Nutrilite Snack Bar, caramel creme flavor, only 100 calories yet 4g fiber and 5g protein

What's your poison?

So apparently, there is quite a personal taste when it comes to protein powder and protein products in general. I personally like the GNC vanilla powder, mixed with soy milk and a cup of frozen fruit for a grand total of 317 calories and 33 g of protein. The powder dissolves quickly and is not overly sweet, letting the flavor of the fruit dominate for the most part. (I've talked a little about protein powders before oContinue
